357 Maximium & 350 Legend?

By chance, after loading up my first fifty Cutting Edge Bullets 150gr ER Raptors for my custom 357Maximium CVA Apex for this years deer season, the first bobcat I have ever seen in legal hunting season walked into my yard a couple of days ago.

The entry wound is on the right side with the rifle photo. She dropped in her tracks at 75 yards. The exit wound is also the same size. This particular bullet looses it's six petals within 2" of impact and then the core drives through much like a Nosler Partition. The manufacture remains the king of the extreme long range game.

This is a 150gr copper bullet with a ballistic coefficient G1 of .320 at 2450fps from my 20" barreled rifle with very little recoil, an honest 300+ yard deer round. It would be easily duplicated with the Winchester 350 legend. Great for States like Iowa where we are limited to straight wall pistol cartridges for deer hunting.

Possibly the best fur friendly bullet I have ever used in almost fifty years of hunting all over the world.

Nice kitty!
The 357 Max got a lot of undeserved bad press from armchair "type-peckers" back in the day.
Most of them were little more than very accomplished "bull-shooters."

It was, and is, a very useful design, especially to an experienced shooter/hand loader.

I love the 150gr raptors. We have used them to take deer from 20-400 yards and they flat out work everytime in 357 Maxs. This year my dad and girlfriend are using Legends so we will test them out too

Not "fur friendly" but the Remington 180 gr. SJHP in front of Lil'Gun in my Maximum is an explosive round. Would have turned the kitty into a hand muffler..

I have a damaged savage take off barrel in 223 Rem that could be rebored by JES for about 250. Thinking lot about it

The max is a great deer round.
I went with a 16” encore barrel threaded for a suppressor.
this was 2-3 years before the legend came out.
The first year I used 180 hornady HPs, they killed well, but I never got an exit hole on the first buck I shot with it, only 25-30 yd shot. I watched him go down, but he went 100 yds and no blood trail, the entrance hole was high in his shoulder shooting down hill at a steep angle.
I switched to Sierra 200g round nose bullets and now I get pass through and they only make it 20-40 yds.
I use Lil gun powder and have them going 2250- 2300 FPS.
I’ll probably never use anything else, it’s short, light weight and easy to carry.

Picture a Henry lever action in .357 Maximum. Just sayin’...
I sadly think that will never happen. They recently partnered with Remington to make rifles in 360 Buckhammer.

I recently stubbed a 16.75" 35cal barrel onto a H&R lug and chambered it in 357 Maximum. This rifle makes the 3rd one I own. I love everything about the cartridge and can't see myself ever being without one. I killed my first black bear with a 357 Max handloaded with a 270gr LFP bullet flying at 1800fps. It was DOA.

It was probably somewhat possible three and a half years ago

357-44 B&D will fit in the confines of small lever actions like a Marlin 1894's and Winchester 92's. Easy to form, run 44 mag brass in the resizing die. It will exceed published 357 Max velocities, but not the velocities mentioned in this thread.
