350 Rem Mag from 7mm Rem Mag w/range report

I picked up a franken Rem 600 Mohawk with a 350 RM barrel and bolt, it feeds well with some brass I made. I was really surprised by the difference in wall thickness of PMC and Hornady brass. Turning the necks I barely skimmed the PMC and took long curls off the Hornady. I've watched vids with them making brass from the 7mm RM without having to neck turn but they never mentioned brass brand. Nome of mine would chamber coming out of the FL sizer without neck turning let alone with a bullet seated. So some questions.

1. What is the thinnest 7mm RM brass

2. What is the best brass to make 350 RM brass from

3. Would you anneal before forming or after(I formed 25 without and they turned out well).

I found the whole rifle for about the cost of the action and it already had aluminum bottom metal and rib removed.

Thanks
AWS

Years ago a friend gave me as part of a trade a Remington 700 that was chambered in 350 rem mag.
I just wanted the action.
So brass and die set came with the deal. don't need it ,been sitting on the shelf for over 10 years. was cleaning up and found it.was going to throw it away when, Lord and Behold i ran into this post.
You can have it all...
just pay for the medium USPS box. 70 pieces of brass, don't know how many times fired ,knowing him ,maybe 3-4 times.and the Redding FL die set.

Surprised me, who would have thought nosler would still be making it. Midway way had "coming soon" but it's been that way along time. Well I'm set up to make my own and have some fired on the way, Thank you Wildcats.

I've done a lot of case forming but the first time the necks ended up too thick. Even taking 9.3x72R down to 6.5x58R fit my chamber.

Your Rem 600 Mohawk in 350 Rem Mag, isn't a Franken gun.
The 600 and 660 were the rifles that the 350 & 6.5 Rem Mag were originally introduced in.

And they are much sought after now.

While I don't own one, I got a set of 6.5 Rem Mag dies at an auction that was part of a lot.
So I decided to play with forming from 7mm Rem Mag.
I annealed first, and went about a quarter inch below the body/shoulder junction.
I started with the mandrel in, and after a few passes, took it out.
Trimming was a son of a gun!
I didn't turn the OD.
Instead I used an ID reamer.

So now I have 20 cases for 6.5 Rem, but no gun.
If I get an action with a magnum bolt face I'll neck the cases down again and make a 25-350 Rem Mag. Or 25-6.5 Rem Mag.

Actually I believe only the 600 and 660 came in 350 RM. The 600 Mohawk only came in 222, 243 and 308. This one has a 600 Mohawk stamped receiver and a barrel from a original 600(18 1/2") with the rib removed. The bolt is unknown whether it is original or has had the face opened, it has a Rem type extractor. The 600 and 660 350RMs had laminated stocks this one is plain walnut, forend has been rounded and both forend and wrist checkering sanded smooth, it is rather nice but I'm pretty sure cobbled together from parts.

I took it to the range today and then t looks like I have a winner. It was windy so I only shot at 50 yards.

158gr Speer JHP over a mild load of 700x shot under 2", not wonderful but four were right at 1". I'm going to change that to 800x and up the charge a little plus a tuft of dacron.

200gr Sierra RNs the ver a starting charge of 2230/Exterminator under an inch. Talk about rock my world, first shot the scope knocked my hat off and the rifle jumped out of the rest. For subsequent shot I put a piece of 1" foam rubber pipe insulation over the end of the butt. I'm going to have to dig out my PAST shoulder pad. This thing makes my 35.Whelen feel like a pussy cat. I don't know if I even want to try a full charge 250gr out of it.

It is a sweet little rig and nearing 80 lighter is nicer. I think I'll be shooting a lot of 158s for small game up to javelina with it. I might swap out the scope to a Sightron S1 1.75-5 as they have a really long eye relief, I had a Leupold VX-II 1-4x20 on it today.

Hi AWS, I would try to resize .450 Marlin (while it lasts) or .458 Win Mag brass.
You will have to turn/shorten the belt a little bit on the .450 or shorten the neck on the .458 but you won't have to deal with unwanted brass thickness on both cases.

We'll see how it works out, I used to load my 358 Norma Mag with 148gr DEWC a few grains of 700x and a tuft of dacron and it would shoot cloverleafs at fifty yards, I used it to squirrel hunt, you could eat right up to the bullet hole.

Good on you!

I hunted with a friend that had a 350.. An awesome deer rifle. It really can produce 350 Wheelen performance from a short action. He also made a wildcat by necking down the 350 to 308 - which was also an excellent rifle. Shame about the belt, but maybe Hornady will come up with a 350PRC at some point.
