338 WSM ???

Does anyone here have experience with it? I am using H4350 and I am looking for a little more velocity. I'm not sure what to try and I don't want to waste time and components unless I have to.
Thanks
Bob

I had one and used H4350 and h4831 and thought it worked good with the lighter bullets but velocities was low with bullets 250 and up, finally gave up and rebarreled it to a 6.5 WSM . Think Winchester got it right when they came out with the 325 instead of 338

Which of those 2 powders gave you better velocity?

I would give Hybrid 100V or N550 a try.
Thanks. I thought about Hybrid 100V because I have some but it isn't one of Hodgdon's extreme powders and I don't want to have to adjust the load based on temp. Hodgdon extreme powders have always been very temp insensitive for me.
In your experience has Hybrid had a big difference in velocity from say 80°F down to 20°F?

Is the 338 WSM similar to the extinct 338 RCM? I wonder if one could get a 0.585 Lapua sized bolt face and shorten it to a 325 WSM overall length.

I haven’t seen a huge difference, but to be fair, we don’t get many 20 degree days down here. Mostly between 90 and 50.

No there is a significant capacity difference between the two, approximately 8 grains.

In defense of the .338 RCM, a fellow gunsmith took his .338 RCM to Africa and harvested 8 head of game with one shot each. Only one in addition required a follow up shot.

Enjoy!
