338 Lapua Brass

Anybody know or have experience with any 338 Lapua brass other than Lapua brand brass. I see Nosler has a decent price on it as well as Hornady. PRVI Partizan is very inexpensive also. Just heard bad reports about it.

I have both Lapua and Nosler. Nosler is from factory loads (which shot very well) and has been reloaded once, but yet to be shot again. Lapua, some has been reloaded twice.

So far, no issues with either. Primer pockets still good, but reloads are relatively mild out of a 27" Sako TRG, only about 2,700 fps with 300 grain SMKs and IMR 7828.

I have a ladder test put together with RL33 and the Nosler brass, but yet to be shot.

I am trying out GWT brass right now. It is fairly cheap and at least what all I have measured, fairly consistent. Been using it in a 338 Lapua AI and have fire-formed about half of the 200 I initially got and haven't lost a case yet. If these don't work out I am going to get Peterson brass, although they recommend not fire-forming to another cartridge so who knows how it will work out if i have to go that route.

I've seen the peterson brass out there and it looks reasonably priced as well. Again, not sure on quality. Lapua is around 2.49 per piece of brass. Hornady and Nosler seem about half that. Lapua is the only company claiming 10-12 reloads per case. Hope you post your results further after testing.

I had some privi split after like 4 loads and I annealed them. YMMV. Not saying it was bad but that was my experience. I was not using tempilaq.

I have been playing with the Nosler brass in my Savage SS. Factory loads fired, reloaded three times, annealed, and two more reloads on a test set of 15 cases.
So far, so good...

In my experience, Hornady is the most inconsistant brass there is. I tried 20 pieces as an experiment. After a single firing, my measurements were all over the place. Neck tensions were very inconsistant too. Accuracy suffered. The thickness showed differing levels in the case of the same powder throws. Even annealling didn't solve the neck tension issues I was having.

My conclusion was to stick with the Lapua brass. I didn't even have the courtesy to leave the Hornady brass at the range for someone else. I threw it in the garbage.

YMMV, but for me, the choice was easy and obvious.

I have Lapua and Norma brass in 338 LM and have no problems with either and currently at 4 reloadings (though I must add I am not hot-rodding it)
Got the Norma brass a few years back when things were tight and I saw it come up for sale so I jumped on it -currently have 300 pieces of brass 200 Lapua and 100 Norma so I am probably set for life.

I used Lapua and RWS in my .338. I liked the RWS as much as Lapua. However, I sold my .338 when I only had 1-2 firings on my brass. Still have the brass. Guess I need to post it up for sale.
