338 Federal Loads

Any one have a good 338 Federal load-- would like to use H4895 or Varget--180 -215gr bullets.

Thanks in advance

For those weight bullets I use a little faster powder. With a 185 TTSX I'm using IMR 8208 and IMR 3031 with the 200 gr SST's. Might work better for me because I'm shooting a short barrel.

With the faster powder used in this case, has anyone used the small rifle primer lapua cases to load? Maybe a little more powder, pressure and velocity ;D ;D

Try 2000MR powder if you want fast and accurate. And don’t let the 225g Accubonds sticking way down into the case lead you to think they won’t shoot in a 338 Federal. I use sized up WW and the common LR Lapua. The Lapua is thicker and much nicer. Not sure it shoots any different though. Had to turn down the mandrel on the Collet die so I could get more than .001" or .002" neck tension on brass that had the necks cleaned up. Even FL sizing with the expander out of an RCBS idn't give me the .004"+ I like in a hunting load. Especially with the WW brass.
