Federal primers for 308

Hi,

Is there a preference for Federal Gold Match or Federal Champion large rifle primers when developing loads for .308 and 185 weight bullets (varget powder)....would you state the same for 155 weight bullets?

Seems like either will produce accurate loads with good es/sd numbers?

TIA

Didn't work to well for me, in my test my sd went from 6 to 11 with just a primer change from Russian to Fed GMM large rifle shooting 185 Berger LTBTs in my .308 Palma rifle over 43.6 g Varget.

Both you mention works very nicely in my Benchrest .308 using RE15 (42 grs) pushing 168 gr HPBT. But I only shoot at 100 yds, hence not the heavies you mentioned. As for 155's, they have never performed well for me, but those were Lapua's.

I've personally had much better luck with CCI BR2's than Fed 210M primers in my match gun. Lower ES/SD and better accuracy.

CCI BR2's are exactly the same as 200's ,...other than the price of course :o
Wayne.

I'm shooting 210m with 46.5 of varget in Lapua brass with moly 155.5 Bergers. Shoot well from my palma rifle. Low SD/ES. However I tested Tula LR magnum primers and they were even lower.

Thanks guys - it seems like a 50/50 call with the two types of feds...I can't get anything else....I am going to have to buy bulk before I try or I will get nothing.

With today's primer shortage I think people are finding that there are more than just a couple of good primers out there. The lowest ES/SD numbers I've seen in my .308 loads came with the Russian primers. With the appropriate adjustments the Fed GMM seems to work just as good as the BR-2's.

One of our local BR shooter had gained his success (and a bunch of trophies) using in his words "Just the plain Federals".
