30mm optics on the Ruger No 1

Anyone put a 30mm scope on their Ruger No 1? I've heard the quarter rib isn't the greatest mounting platform for a heavier scope. Mine isn't super heavy at about 22 ounces, but it ain't no 2-7 Leupold either. I don't want to waste money on Ruger rings if it's a bonkers idea. The rifle seems accurate enough in it's stock form to warrant some better glass.

1981 Ruger #1 .220 swift re-barreled to 22-250 and cleaned up. Mounted a Leupold VX-3 6.5-20x40 with 30 mm tube. & varmint hunter reticle. Shoots great. 30mm no problem but I went with smaller objective for looks and cheek weld.

Nice rig, but yours does have the scope blocks. Anyone put one on the quarter rib?

If I remember correctly the quarter rib was pinned as well as screwed in place so I would think it would be a very secure mounting platform for a 30mm scope.

You are right. Combination of pins and screws actually makes it more secure than most mounts usning only four screws.

Anyone know offhand what's the lowest 30mm ring set that will work on the quarter rib? I think I might give this a go. I've heard Leupold mediums are about the lowest.
