Thanks,
I think it will be a full house again this year. Haven't seen much buzz about it here on the forum.

I agree, here in KY it is very popular and also agree that it is highly competitive. Excellent shooters across the board. Always a good time.Sometimes I think UBR is like the red headed stepchild farting at the dinner table of Benchrest. IMO, it does not get promoted as much as it should by the powers that be. It is a lot of fun and highly competitive.
Yes,Real world comparison....30 BR 34.7g H4198. 30 BRA 36.4g H4198. Same powder lot, same 8 in drop tube, same 114g short BT bullet just contacting the powder level, same 8-10 jam, and same reamer FB length. There is indeed a faster node, but I agree with Wheeler that the main advantage is the 40 degree shoulder. No chrono data .....I only care about where the holes are.
Are you using 35.6 with 118s?Since this thread started, I have revised my powder selection for my 30BR.
Before the Nationals, I was locked into 4198. However, just before we left, I got some N-130 to try. It shot great at 35.6 grns.
When I got to Raton, I had three powders with me, figuring the 6000 ft elevation and lack of humidity would mean some serious load development. H 4198, LT 30, and N-130.
On arriving, I decided to stick the exact same N-130 load in my Rifle that worked on the Gulf Coast. It shot great. So good that I decided to simply go with the N-130.
I had a good Nationals. My Rifle shot really well.
To heck with 4198.

I have a supply of Jim Cline's 108s and he told me that the next best powder to H4198 is N130. If you look at his success in competition, I would venture to say that he knows what he is talking about.I will have to switch powders soon. Is N130 better than LT30? In the straight 30BR ?
In my rifles yes.I will have to switch powders soon. Is N130 better than LT30? In the straight 30BR ?
Same here, that is what my targets are telling me.In my rifles yes.
