.308win long range bullets

I just won NBRSA Light Gun Score this weekend at the Colorado Rifle Club 1000BR shoot using my Savage .308, factory 1-10 twist 26" varmint barrel with 1200 rounds through it. I was using tungsten disulphide coated Sierra 175MK's over 45.4 grains RL15 and BR-2 primers. Muzzle velocity was 2790fps. I screwed up by not having enough ammunition left to also compete in the Heavy Gun shoot off for group. Otherwise I might have come home with two chunks of wood. This was my fifth match and first win. I still have a lot of work to do in learning to read the wind and mirage as well as cleanup my technique.

What size group won it for you? and what was the wind/mirage conditions? I'm shooting a Winchester Model 70 .308 Heavy Varmint, shooting 45grs of RL15/CCI BR-2 primers pushing a 175 SMK. I'm getting 1/2moa at 400yrds I have not shot this load at any longer distances. I was shooting 44grs Varget and could stay right under 1moa,9.4") at 1000yrds with it,with good conditions). I'm hoping the RL15 might help me just a bit. I would love to get it into the 6"-7" at 1000yrds.

ArcherMike,

Note, my win was for score not group - I'll have to work on that.
Group size was exactly 10.000" for the five record shots in the shoot-off,1-10/3-9's/1-8 for a score of 45). Winds were 0-10mph shifting from behind to east with a boiling mirage from right to left - even when there was no measurable wind at the bench. Considering I just started to recognize wind changes my last shoot of the 2006 season, it was rough. The other factor that should have sunk me but probably saved my back side, I only had 7 rounds remaining going into the shoot-off - poor planning on my part. I saved both sighters for the last minute of the sight-in period. The last sighter I fired at the 15 second call. Adjusted my scope two clicks and fired my five remaining rounds for record as fast as I could when 'commence fire' was called, before conditions changed. I'm not sure how accurate this combination is since I broke all the rules by changing just almost everything in the loads and the rifle just days before the shoot. I plan to get in some calm early morning testing before the April shoot. However, there will be NO CHANGES this time. My confidence level going into the shoot was almost zero. It was more stressful than I want to admit.
