308Win IMR 4895 SMK175 recipe

I have some IMR 4895 powder to burn.. anyone has good recipe to share for 308Win IMR 4895 with SMK 175 or Hornady 168? out of Savage BA10 Stealth. also, to what jump should I try load this?

Somewhere around 41.5gr IMR 4895 should find it shooting well with either bullet.

I'd start them at about .015" off the lands, determine optimal charge weight, then adjust seating depth as necessary.

43.3-43.6 imr4895 with Winchester brass and wolf le primers with .020" jump worked very well in my Barnard with kreiger 10 twist bbl. 2750fps. Shot well at 8,9,1000yds. Good waterline, shot 175tmk

My load for the Hornady 168 BTHP is 41.5 gr. of H-4895, in a Federal Case, with a CCI BR primer. Seating depth is 2.800". This load shoots really well in a Tikka T3 Sporter @ 300M, and a Win M70 600 yds. & in.

If you use a Sierra HPBT, change the seating depth to 2.775", and let 'em fly. Same powder, same charge weights.

The beauty of these for me is that I switch to a Lake City case, and a CCI-34 primer, and I also have my M-14 service rifle load - I wish all of my calibers/rifles were this easy to load for.

Oddly enough, the 175 smk and the Hornady 168 bthp had roughly the same node (like the same charge weight) with imr-4895 in 2 different 308win barrels ... That was using F.C. brass and cc-200 and S&B primers. 2.790" coal.

When I switched to H-4895 (from IMR-4895) I ended up reducing the load by 0.5 gr ( to 41 / 41.5 gr).

Hmm... that is crazy.

I have a Tikka, with a 24" barrel. The M70, has a 29" barrel. Both like the same load I mentioned above. They both came from my service rifle load(borrowed from the AMU's load book) also mentioned above - I just changed over to a softer brass. Will the 175's fly reasonably well out to 1K with that charge weight?

You should preform a ladder test to establish a node rather than trying someone else's load data.

I am not confident that my shooting skill would not skew the results. That’s why I am looking for good starter load.

Not to speak for another man however Leftytrigger just worked with the same powder and Bullets you suggested, perhaps he would share if you asked him.
