308 Win Bolt action Rifle of choice

Well in the process of looking for a 308, I found a Ruger American Predator model 6973 in 6.5 Creedmoor, 22inch threaded barrel for under $320.00. Not to keen on the stock so I will trade it out into a MDT LSS chassis with custom buffer tub to get my Length of pull for it. Looking at the Luth-AR MDA-3 for it. Pair up with a 6-24x50 Athlon and a bipod and I will be happy.

I really like the MDT chassis's and still planning on moving my Howa M1500 Mini Action in 7.62x39 either to a Boyd or MDT Oryx chassis. Might move the Ruger American Standard GEN2 into the MDT Oryx.

SO I still look for the 308.....smiles....thank you for all the comments and ideas.

If you are considering competition. Bypass the 308 and get a Sav 12 Target in 6br. Save yourself time and better rewarded on target. Several variations available in this model. Jmo

So I have been looking at purchasing a 308 Bolt action Rifle. I want to use it to fire my own loads and at distance of 100 plus yards and towards if I wish to shoot in competition (maybe). I am on a budget kinda of so not wanting to go over the top. Looking at barrel length longer than 20 inches like in 24inches or longer.

So I have prepared a spreadsheet with my likes and these are my likes but not sure which...I own the Ruger American Standard GEN2 in 223 and enjoy shooting it.

Ruger American Predator GEN2 with the 22 inch barrel

Ruger M77 Hawkeye Long Range Target with 26 inch barrel

Remington 700 ADL with 24 inch barrel

Remington 700 SPS with 24 inch barrel

Savage 110 Tactical with 24 inch barrel

Savage 110 Predator with 24 inch barrel

I like the M77 but not ever shot one or nor no anyone that has one, so looking for input on it as well as the others. Tikka's are out of my range as well as Sako's too. I tend to lean towards the Ruger since I already have a Ruger in 223 and it shoots nicely at 100 yards plus. But also the Remington 700 with their R5 barrels are standing there in their own and are looking great.

Looking for input....

Thank you
look for older used tikka. wood can be a little beat up if rest of rifle looks good. 308s out of favor, even if it is out of your budget, spend the extra 150-200 and get the tikka.

older savage 110 308 heavy barrel are excellent value. black plastic stock, NO accutrigger and flat top receiver. they are slowly getting discovered, prices creeping up. VERY accurate. get a beat up one, I bet it will still shoot great.

I'd never recommend a beat-up firearm
If the exterior wasn't cared for, it's even more likely the interior wasn't either.

it would take an incredible amount of abuse to degrade the accuracy of those HB savage rifles I am talking about. Clean crown and clean boltface, rough stock, still will shoot great, that specific rifle in 308. I should have used the phrase 'a little beat up'

I will and keep my eyes open for a "slightly" used Tikka as I do for the last rifle being a 6.5 CM Ruger American Predator for $305.00 of it, when I inspected figured it would have been used alot, but I found no fouling or copper in the barrel and also when I disassembled i found not wear or anything wrong with it. So mostl likely a bought rifle that no one ever shot or used. Good deal.

I am headed south to BIG Country for a week for work and my evenings will be visiting Rilfe stores nosing thru their used rifles in .308. I am also nosing about the 22-250 too now.
