Got my hands on the rifle yesterday. I have not spoken with the couple that was shooting the rifle, but did get a few questions answered:
Bullet exited the barrel, did not hit target
Shooter did not know anything untoward happened until the bolt was lifted. No hammer, etc., was required to extract case, AFAIK. Trying to get more on this.
• No visible damage to action or barrel
• Ejector works properly
• Extractor works properly
• Action works smoothly (OK, smoothly for a Savage. I did lube the lugs, cam, etc., and it smoothed up quite a bit).
• Bolt face is etched at primer pocket like one big donut, although it seems pretty smooth. I’m guessing pressure did the deed, not a leaking primer, so that makes sense.

• Case head noticeably larger in diameter, measuring indicates it is egg-shaped, as is enlarged primer pocket.
Best measurement at .200 line of fired case vs once-fired 270 (not fired in this chamber):
