.308 Barrels and ES/SD Numbers

How large a contributor to poor ES/SD numbers have you guys found the barrel or bore/groove spec of the barrel - when using a .308 with heavy 185 class bullets?

I don't even pay attention to ES anymore. My best loads have been about 20ES I have gotten 5, 6, and 7 ES before that group at 1.5 to 1. at 500 yards but suck at 1000 yards.

I have shot and also witnessed 60ES go in the same hole at 600 yards. and 1/2 moa or better at 1000 yards. The proof is in the pudding.

I used to drive myself nuts over chrono readings, I don't anymore. I had a guy at the Berger Nationals ask me what kinda ES/SD #s i'm getting with my current load i was shooting there after he scored one of my strings and saw the vertical was tight. I said i have no idea as i didn't chrono the load and really don't care, it hammers at 1000 and thats all i'm worried about.......
