.308 168gr A-Max Load Data

Im shooting a RRA LAR-8 and want to reload a 168gr A-MAX or 155gr A-MAX. Trying to find the right sight in range and am having some trouble choosing a range that will benefit for the longer ranges. I shoot a .243 win and am stepping up for the half mile attempt on some woodchucks in ohio. Having trouble adjusting......If anyone has some info on getting started please let me know. Thanks guys

I can not say anything for a 155gn.but for the 168gn bullets use 4064 and varget.and even 4895 works good too.but no info for it.

with varget try 43gn and work up to a safe load for your rifel

with 4064 try 42gn and work up to a safe load for your rifel

these are the two I use and where I started from.

Kind of at a crossroads on this .308. Still breaking it in and gonna change a few things on it, but just trying to figure it all out. I know my .243 like the back of my hand and trying to do the same with the big dog. Thanks once again.

with 168 amax try 39.1 grains of imr3031 with my savage 26"
fluted stainless it put 10 shots in one hole.
about 2550 fps. no recoil at all.

IF using WIN cases ,45.6 IMR 4895 & 155s, CCI BR2 primers (OAL 2.820) work great. Using Lapua cases I drop to 45.3.

168 Amax, 45.5 N150 (Book states MAX load, WORK UP), Lapua cases & CCI BR2 primers work well. This is the stated load for Lapua 170 grs. but I have found that it works equally well with the 168 and even gets it to 1,000 yds NO Problem.

This is out of a 24" Rem 700 done up by GAP and my 30" Tubb T2K.

Re: .308 155gr A-Max Load Data

My buddy and I have been using the VV N-133 and N-135 powder in the 308 Laupa cases with 155 VMax tips. We show about 3,000 fps with 44.9 grs of powder. This is in a loose Kriger bore.

I have also used Norma 204 and H 4895. Our barrels liked the VV powder with the faster burn rate better.

If you use these loads start low and work up as your barrel will likely be tighter than ours.

FWIW, the 45.6 load of IMR 4895 will reach 600 yds in 11.5 MOA. Don't have my data book handy but that should place that load around /above 2950 FPS. Have no idea how it will do on 'chucks but it does great on 'dillos & coyotes down here in the South !!

I'm shooting 45grs. of Varget witht the 168's kissing the lands in a 26" barrel. Chrono says it's around 2850 but that seems alittle fast to me. I have to do some more chrono'ing to be sure. It's pretty darn accurate.
