thanks again
Yes, FB = free bore. With the 260AI I have seen generally two categories of freebore, either the "6.5-08AI" which is usually 0.080" or shorter or the match chambers at 0.140" and longer. I have a 0.160" and it gives me plenty of room to work with seating out longer or not stuffing the 140+ size bullets way down in there for more jump.fb? not sure is that free bore?
ok i think i know how to check that ill see what i can find out Thank youYes, FB = free bore. when you set headspace with correct go no gauges the case is held with a slight crush fit at neck shoulder junction you get zero case stretch on first firing. buy the gauges if your doing your own savage pre fit other shouldered 260ai barrels your gunsmith understands what to doLoad a 140 just as you would in a standard 260 and shoot it. The case capacity increase is minimal and you want to use a snappy load to fireform. Do not use a mild load. If you do, you will end up with excessive head clearance on your fireformed brass. If it was me, I would load 47 of 4831 and the 140 of the day and shoot it. WH

primarily im shooting 100-200 yards I have access to almost 1000n yards but its 3 hours away on our hunting propertyWhat distances are you primarily shooting?
Because the change in body taper is minimal, the 260 AI won't be as bad as others but any AI cartridge, if the load is too light, will shorten as the case expands outward. In fact, any cartridge will do this if there is much clearance on the diameter and pressures are on the low side. A snappy load with faster burning powders is best. A light load is likely to leave you with a protruding primer regardless of the headspace measurement. Blank loads work quite well; once the right level is found. I use 700X and a piece of toilet paper.when you set headspace with correct go no gauges the case is held with a slight crush fit at neck shoulder junction you get zero case stretch on first firing. buy the gauges if your doing your own savage pre fit other shouldered 260ai barrels your gunsmith understands what to do

If one is loading a light load in ant cartridge, he will be best served by using neck sized brass to avoid shortening.
Makes sense to me, on your comment on 700x and toilet paper brought back memories fireforming 30 herrett cases with 700x and corn meal except I plugged with bar soap worked well
