308 150gr subs

Have you tried Clays? I have a thread titled Velocity question. Just wanted to share. Also I was able to obtain 2 containers of Trail Boss. That works good as well with 190gn sub-x. But for sure interested in this load you have. Going to shoot suppressed next year when going pig hunting with AR10

Yeah they still make it. I went out on a limb and reached out to CAC Associates here in PA and got lucky. Also Hodgden was selling it like two weeks ago. They announced Trail Boss on their website and they had a one day sale. I didn’t get any as I was waiting for my order from CAC

Try some Sierra 150gr “30-30” bullets. Very accurate at any 308 speed. I use a lot of BE-86 in cast and/or subsonic loads only because I have very little Unique, Herco and Blue Dot left…

Other powders for low vel loads.

I used the .30-30AI data for my .308 and it came out pretty close. Blue Dot with a180gn bullet was as accurate as they show in their data. Not much difference between jacketed and cast either (except jacketed may need to be RN or similar to stabilize at lower vel).

What is everyone’s thoughts on why this casing looks like this? Round did not go off initially and charging handle was hard to open the bolt.

Depends on the powder, but most likely about a .2 of a grain away from a kaboom.

The delay was a hangfire. Not enough powder or powder in the wrong part of the case. The neck sealed before the body and air was trapped between the case and chamber wall.

Whats the primer look like, and what was the load?

A lot of cast bullet shooters that shoot small powder loads will put powder in the case then stuff dacron fiber in to keep the powder against the base.
This. Kapok worked great for me. Be sure and take the weight of the Kapok into account when loading rounds. 1 gr of Kapok goes a long way. It definitely helped with my shot to shot consistency speed wise. Good luck and keep us updated.
