A day which we will live in infamy
Been a while since I posted on big rifles being I sold my old stand by 7mag when my wife was going through cancer.
Now that’s over I had to find another. I was in the local pawn shop and seen a heavy barrel long action remington while I was working them over on a 700 tactical in 223.
Fast forward a month I went in and still had the ugly camo heavy barrel. Started looking it over and it was a 300wm sendero. They wanted 900. After some talk and work I ended up getting it for 700.
Got it home and after a pretty stringent cleaning prices and stripping the paint off everything, even inside the action and trigger, I managed a decent looking rifle. Throat look great in it.
I started gathering components, talk about sticker shock looking at brass…
I settled on petersons long brass and picked up 190 and 220gr smk. I also ordered 200 Nosler accubonds to load up for some hunting rounds.
Barrels a 1-10tw of course.
I grabbed some h4831sc being it’s what I always used in the 7mag and some n560. Been kinda on a Vihtavuori kick and my local outdoor shop usually has it.
Got dies and a rcbs neck die to use also. Gonna order a 305 or 306 expander mandrel for it.
Went out and started doing some generic load work with all 3 bullets. I forgot how much a 300 kicks too.
I was only doing 3 shot groups looking for loads.
I’m going to work some on 72.5+/- for the 190s and 68.7+/- for the 220s.
Found a decent load with 71.2gr of n560 with the accubonds and gonna work down to about 70.3gr with those. The 71.2gr gave me 3044fls over 3 shots average and single digit sd and es numbers.
Overall I’m pretty happy with it so far. But definitely want to tighten things up. These were all loaded at 3.340. I loaded some up today to try next days off at .050 off the lands. In my rifle lands are at 2.950cbto and still fit in the magazine well. I’ll use that length for the 220s and maybe 190s to see if it improves any.
Only time will tell
