300Win Load Help

Screen Shot 2020-10-05 at 7.00.26 PM.jpg Hi, i did a load work up for my Bergara 300Win, shooting 208 ELD-M with H1000 Powder... wanted to know your guys thoughts on grouping vs sd/es/velocity. im still learning on how to read this data but im guessing 77gr is a good load but don't know why the grouping is >moa.. or why all the groups are that large, im confident in my shooting ability, im wondering if i should go with a lighter bullet? different powder? any help would be appreciated!

Well I dunno, you have some nice one hole 3 shot groups so you're doing something right for 3 outta 5.
Seriously if those were my groups I'd be looking at my technique.

All shot in one session is a serious challenge with a Win Mag which might challenge anyone to get tight enough grouping for dependable load developing info.

In reallity, you need to test seating depth PRIOR to testing powder loads.
I test seating depth with a powder on the slow end with a middle load, I load in .005” increments starting at .010” off the rifling IF I can get there! Then I work AWAY from the rifling.
Otherwise, if you can’t load close, work from mag length and again work away from the rifling. You WILL find a sweet spot for THAT bullet quite easily using these methods.
Another thing, test different primers with the same loads, it will make a huge difference.

Cheers.

What distance for targets? I find 200yd offers a better signal than 100 and is still close enough to minimize environmental and shooter problems. I would start with a moderate charge and conduct the Berger seating depth trial first to find a good grouping, which will then allow you to do a reliable single shot ladder up to max pressure to find a node or two. Both these trials are looking at very wide ranges, so follow-up with fine tuning as desired. Follow the target, chrono is a secondary tool.

Don't forget Retumbo.

I don't care what any other data is collected....only group size at 300 yards or further, at least in my short experience.

I agree with load 8. Looks like wind has an effect on this group too. Test it again with different seating depths...
Try to use wind flags or some type of indicator for it. Group 8 has the less vertical in it...check bedding too

i was actually thinking about trying Retumbo, bad thing about living here in hawaii... 100yds is all i can get out to at the public range... there's private land but i can only get there maybe once every 3 months, there's a 200yd range but that's on base, other than that i gotta fly to other islands.. i know this rifle is made for waay more than 100yds.. just want to make a load that when i am able to get out to distance i got something close, i also see people finding a good node at lower powder charges, should i try to go lower or am i at a good velocity already

In that 26" barrel, your target velocity for max pressure is 2960 fps.
You hit that at 77 grains.
Good safe nodes are usually found between 1% and 2% off of max.
77 x .985 (1.5%) = 75.8 grains
75.8 grains has great numbers according to your chart.
Adjust seating depth and rock on.

still new to seating depth tests, but seating depth can have that big of an effect on a 2.45" group?
