300 yd...8tw/105's or 14tw 68 gr

Recoil management also plays a role, especially if you are a runner. I find that even in a 13.5# rifle a 30BR is noticeably more difficult to shoot well than a 6PPC, even though I think that the 30BR is considerably easier to keep in tune.

The friend / GB BR team member with the 30BR barrel I mentioned had originally chambered it for possible 100 yards BR comps as an alternative to his PPCs, but found out as you say that the extra recoil made it that bit harder to shoot. It definitely seemed to have the edge though at 300 in our experimental matches, albeit as noted in a very small competitor list.

(A gunsmith friend borrowed the reamer and put a 30BR 'bitzer' together for me on an old Paramount Palma type sling-shooting action and stock. So I have my own 30BR, but it's not a proper BR gun by a long, long way, rather an old geezer's target plinker and budget shooter to use up the oodles of part tins of fast-burning powders I now longer need for my usual shooting/cartridges. Great fun, and years of load development interest to come, but the recoil did surprise me just a tad - I thought it'd be damn near recoil-free.)
