300 WSM

Hey guys
Getting my 300 WSM today!!!! Can send me some loads for it? Got a 1-15 twist Bruxs 30" long Bat model B in one of Richard Franklin stocks. I have some 110 Vmaxs, 125 Noslers, 118 Bibs and some 118 Knight bullets. Any help you can give would be great. Phone is 256-777-0062 if you rather talk.

Thanks Jack

Jack,

Sorry, no help on loads, but I am very curious…

For what purpose is a 300WSM with such small bullets?

Clearly you're not screwing around and have built this rifle with those bullets in mind.

Sincerely,

-nosualc

There was story about Richard Franklin awhile back about him shooting a 300 WSM with the lights for Prairie dogs. I know from experience that if you want death and destruction 125 Noslers goin real fast will do it!

Well after reading the Richard Franklin story on here I has all was wanted one. I was in New Mexico
on a goat hunt a few years ago an was at the Whittington Center shooting in our guns before the hunt and three guys sat down on the bench next to me an had one they were shooting. After a little talking about the rifle they let me shoot it an that was it. Kicked like a 223 and I shot about 1" group at 400yrds
with it. They said it kills like Thors hammer to boot. The were going goat hunting as well an were using that as one of their guns. I hope to shot a few does at long range with it. Just another I did not need but wanted.

Thanks Jack

Now with my experience you don't want to shoot anything you plan on keeping. It is extremely destructive. The round I used was a 30-378 which has more than the WSM but it was insane the damage it would do. My 30-378 would run 125s at 4200. Just to give you an idea if the difference.

I've been running 72 grs of RL-17 with the 125gr bullets, CCI250 primer. If you're going to shoot deer, switch to the 130 Barnes TTSX bullet, same load. It's a hammer on deer. The Nosler is likely to give insufficent penetration. The Barnes will blow thru.
