300 WSM Velocities

For those that's shoot the 300 wsm and played with different bullet weights, what would be a realistic real world velocity for the 185-190 grain bullets from a 12 twist 30" barrel? Right now I'm in the 2950 range and not sure if that's low or getting close to the high end for this case. 63.0-63.5 grains H4350. I've loaded up some to test tomorrow going up to 65.0 grains with the Berger 190 VLD.

Thanks in advance.

Thats gettin up there for sure. If I remember I pushed pretty hard to get a 208 amax to hit 3000 and it was pointless. If you got a sweet spot around 2900-2950 with 190's and its easy on brass Id run with it.

I don't worry about velocity. I shoot them where it shoots best. With a 210 Berger VLD, that is usually around 2800 TO 2850. Sometimes they will go faster but don't seem to shoot good there. MATT

Thanks guys, I'm definitely in the 2900-2980 range. I just didn't know where to expect my velocity to be with the given weights. I surely didn't want to give up a couple hundred fps if all possible.

My barrels are 34" and run 230 Hybrids around 2850-2865 fps using H4831 SC. I have no feel for H4350 in this cartridge but Matt is right. Go with the load that shoots best.

When I had a 300 WSM with a 30" barrel I was using 60.5-61 grs of H4350 with a 210 VLD and was getting 2820-2840 fps and just like Matt said that's where it shot best.

Tim did a friend of mine a 300WSM on a Tac 300 long action and he shoots the 215 Hybird and H4831 at 2875 from a 28 inch 9 twist Bartlien Hv with Fat Bastard brake in a McMillan A5 stock and it shoots lights out,,

it will knock the crap out of a plate a long ways,,

This is exactly where I am at with my 300WSM HG and 210s. I do have a 190gn load I push close to 2950 but I have not used it as much.

Thanks guys. I'm at 64.5 grains with the 190 VLD with a velocity of 2956 the ES is a bit higher than I like so I'm going to try a different primer and neck tension to get it down. But for powder charge and seating depth I've found my load.

Here's are a few four shot groups shot this morning at 500 yards testing seating depth.

Groups shot are in the order I shot them and are .005 difference in the seating depth going further away from the lands.

I need to work on a different primer and seating pressure the ES was 20 fps and just not acceptable. I have a few loaded same charge and seating depth with the BR2 and I'll test them side by side wit the 210m and see which primer gives best ES and accuracy and then I'll work on neck tension

What is the throat an lead length in your 300 wsm.

I'm unsure what I did was seat a BIB 187 FB bullet above the neck and told Tim Claunch to throat it to this load.
Basically I had this barrel chambered for that one bullet. That's why I chose the 12 twist. I thought I'd test a few other bullets in between matches to have a backup when these bullets dry up.
