300 wsm action length

I feel it does. You get a longer loading length and you can get the loaded rounds out the gun. You can also throat it out to where it needs to be and will still fit the magazine. The weight difference is small. Matt
Agree with Matt. I have tried both lengths and prefer the LA.
It is much more versatile in throating and bullet seating.

A long action is where it's at. I have a 300wsm on a LA with a COAL of 3.19 using 215 Bergers and it runs 2960fps with R-26 in a 26" barrel. That is right with my buddies 26" barreled long throated 300wm using H-1000. There is no way to do that in a short action.

does a 300 wsm benefit(much?) from a long action?

Yes and no, it depends on what weight bullet you're shooting. My heavy hunting rig with 175's has more than enough room in a SA 2.980" mag to seat them where they need to be. For heavies in a target setup LA all the way.

Thanks all. it would be fore heavies in a target rifle BUT must have magazine, what magazine fits the defiance XM length?

Mine is on a hunting rifle, so I went with the BDL hinged floor plate: https://defiancemachine.com/accessories/bottom-metal-kits/

I could have sworn someone made a detachable mag setup for this, but I can't seem to find it available. It is mentioned in this article: http://www.transientoutdoorsman.com...lution-of-the-ultralight-rifle-part-4-actions

Long action with CIP length magazines is a great combo for 300wsm/7wsm/7saum/300saum. Feeds good and tons of length for seating.
