300 wsm 230/215s

How are you finding the recoil management of the cartridge Ben? Is it noticeably harder than a 7SAUM?

yes recoil management is a potential liability to consistent precision, it just moves in the bags a lot more than the SAUM.
It’s hard for me to comment completely as with my WSM barrel installed the rifle weighs only 8.5kg, given how light my rifle is it’s not as bad as I first thought it would be (it’s not uncomfortable or painful) it requires very close attention to bag setup.

I am taking it to ACT queens and was planning to only use it if required. Looking at the wind forecast I will be using it a fair bit.
I am going to add lead ballast to the stock to bring it up to weight and will be able to comment on recoil management better after the queens.

because I haven’t shot it in quite a while I will use it for the leadup and save my SAUM for the queens

I believe that stock design plays a huge part in how the rifle "handles / re-acts" under recoil. I have a McMillan "Kestros" stock, which has a L-O-W center of gravity. It is also quite heavy. With the low center of gravity, torque is controllable, at least compared to a "normal / high" center of gravity stock. Then I have a "NITRO" 1.5" soft recoil pad which soaks up "felt" recoil to a large degree. Recoil and torque management is easy for me, and I place most of the credit to the stock and total weight (21lbs. 12oz.) of the rifle.
