300 Win Mag and RE22

Merry Christmas to all. I used to have a load for my 300 and I used RE22 but I can't remember what the load was. This was many years ago and I didn't keep the info for whatever reason. I know I used Sierra 190gr. MK's and somewhere about 71-72 grains of RE22 but I just can't remember. Does anybody have a sweet load for the 300 using this powder and the 190's? I also have some 200gr. Sierra MK's and 208gr. A-Max's and some Berger 210's that I would like to try to. Any info is greatly appreciated

Hi Little Jeff, you are in the ballpark with your 71-72 grains of RL-22, I would start around 69-70 grains shooting 3 shot groups and work your way up in .5 grain increments watching your results on paper and watching carefully for pressure. I owned a .300 Win Mag Sendero that I sold earlier this year on here that loved 190 MK's with RL-22 and Fed. 215 Mag primers.

Thank you for the reply. I have one more ? though. I am using Lapua brass now for the 300WM. I have about 5-6 firings on the cases. I have been told that I should anneal my cases. I have a small propane torch and a cordless drill that I could use to rotate the brass. Would that be a good setup for annealing brass and how long should I keep the neck and shoulder of the brass in the flame? I have never done this before and want to make sure I do it right. Thanks again

Lapua brass in .300 Win Mag? Don't believe they make it. But as to annealing you need to get some tempilag to check your temps on case necks and use same technique/time to anneal your cases. I am thinking around 5.5-6 seconds for each case. Do a search here on forum and you will come up with tons of info on annealing.

Jeff, My go to load for my Hart barreled Remington was 73.5 Gr's of RL-22 with a 180Gr Nosler Partition. Very accurate and deadly on Elk. So as 40X Guy says, I think you're in the ball Park. I would probably start with 71Gr's and work up in 1/2 gr increments. My rifle shot well with a few other powders but RL-22 was by far the best. Good Luck.

I believe I used to use RL22 and 210 Bergers w/210m primers I used around 69-70grs. H4831sc with the same amount shoots very good also.

Frank-Lapua used to make 300win brass-not anymore,it was a bit lighter than the FED/WIN brass I used.

They used to make it, not anymore. I will have to revert to Norma brass after this stuff is all shot out. Thanks for all the replies. I will anneal after I fire these rounds.

LittleJeff,
I have used RL-22 for years in my 300's Beware of different brass makers as pressure can and will spike quickly for instance I use 70.0 grains of RL-22 in my .300wm using 210VLD's and Norma Brass but that will blow the primers clear out of RWS brass and huge pressure signs on Federal brass, but Winchester will handle it, 180's I have been running 77 grains, 190SMK's 75.5, 210's 70.0 with Norma brass, and 215M primers. These loads are custom tailored to my rifle, and could be potentially dangerous in other .300wm rifles, I suggest anyone wanting to load these bullets with this powder back off at least two grains from what I listed.

As a side note,..RWS brass is every bit as good a Lapua but it is very thick and loads have to be reduced and work up from there , you can get it from time to time on here, I believe jaycuthwright still may have some for sale on this site.

Little Jeff, take good care of that Lapua brass and it will take care of you. As another sidenote, I used the Nosler custom brass in my .300 WM with very good results. Pull em out of the box and load em. :)

Frank,
I really think that darn Nosler is really hit and miss, some of the best brass I have used was Nosler .308 brass and the absolute worst,...so bad in fact it went straight to the scrap brass pile unfired was Nosler .300wm. I have heard others say as well they have had great brass and others say great so I don't know what happens in there process but it seems to be inconsistent, my local guy is great he lets me open the box in the back of the store and inspect it, before purchase :)

Hi Jeff...the Rx-22 is a good choice of powder with just about any bullet in the 300 win......the Lapua and or RWS is the best brass ever made....but in this day and age hard to find $$$.....I have had VERY good results with the new generation WW brass ....you have to find max load for your own rifle/powder/bullet/primer combo and stay aprox 1 gr below it....Roger

Wayne, guess I was lucky with the 2 boxes of Nosler brass I bought for my .300. I liked it so much I bought a box of .270 Win. Lapua is used in everything else I own pretty much except for my 6 AI's which inhale Win. and Norma brass. Agreed that their process may not be all there and lot to lot consistency also :)
