Hello All, first time writer and I wanted to share my load testing results. I used a commercial trued Mauser action with a 1in9 Kreiger barrel, 26". Bushnell 3200 10x40mm scope on Burris Zees.
PLEASE CONSULT A RELOADING MANUAL AND WORK YOUR WAY UP FROM THEIR STARTING POINTS.
Bullet: 180 gr Berger Hybrids .010 off the lands
Powders; RE22, RE25, H4831sc, H-1000 and Retumbo
Started each powder at Sierra starting loads and work up quickly to find max. load in my gun. Once I found max. worked back at .2 grains for 2 grains.
Shot ladder test at 100 yards and found the node for each powder, once I had the node, loaded .1 grain each direction for .4 grains, again finding each node at 200 yards.
Today I shot the best node for each powder at 300 yards only issue was a 10 to 15 mph wind gusts, but had no choice planning on shooting my first competition at 600 yards this Sunday. By far the most accurate load in my gun was 63.3 grains of H4831sc, under 1 inch at 300 yards. Next was RE25 at 1.75 inches, H-1000 at 2.25 inches, RE22 at 2.85 inches and Retumbo at 3.55 inches.
It was a very weird feeling shooting the H4831sc versus the others, it was very smooth recoil????
Not interested in speed too much looking for the most accurate load for my gun.
I would like to thank Accurate.com for all the wonderful articles on ladder testing and load development!!!
Before I started this test my brother who is a gunsmith recommended H4831sc, I just had it my head that one of the newer powders was going to give me better results
