300 Wby. free bore & Hybrids

I have a .300 Weatherby Mag that I can get sub moa groups with 180gr round nose bullets loaded down to 06 velocities. If I push up velocities or go to spitzer design bullet the groups open up .The free bore is typical of the chambering I was wondering if anyone has any experience with hybrid bullets and free bored 30cal magnums?

Bryan Litz told me recently at the Berger Nationals that hybrids will work with .100" jump and not to avoid trying them there. Give them a try. The worst that can happen is spending some time at the range.

I have loaded the VLD's in a 300 Wby, best load is the 190 grain Hunting VLD traveling about 2960 out of a 27 inch shilen using h4831sc and CCI LR Mag primers. Load could be pushed much hotter but it groups under .5 MOA when pushed it opens up. I would not be afraid of the Wby freebore, I load for a 257 Wby with the 115 VLDs as well. I load a few thousands under mag length to prevent battering and run with it. In my experience if you try and get to the lands you run out of bullet length to hold in the neck (also won't fit mag). Working up loads now in a 338-378 with typical Wby freebore.

Thanks for the recipe. I'll try the VLD Hunting bullet. The gun is a Mod. 70 pf. with a factory 24" barrel with a KDF that is pleasant to shoot but has never performed. Sound and fury is nice but only when it accompanies results.

I went back and measured the freebore in this rifle and it averages .25" beyond the average bullet seating for this cartridge. The stock reamers for this chamber that I have reviewed fall into this range also. Anyone have any experience with the 300wby. rifle with a less extreme free bore?

I am interested in how this turns out as i have a wby vanguard sub moa in 300wby and my mag box is 3.565 so with barnes bullets i am doing pretty good but with accubonds it didnt like them at all.
