300 rum

I picked up a 700 Remington in a 300 RUM only to find that this action is made for magnum calibers!!
I love the action it is embellished with the engraving. I am not into big bang guns and prefer something mild to shoot, so tell me what would be the most accurate magnum cartridge that you would recommend for this action with the least recoil? remember accurate!!
Thanks in advance

If you want to take full advantage of the added length of that action, you need a "Super-Mag" as they used to be called. If you want a VERY accurate, "mild" recoil (as far as Super-Mags go) yet has killing power "Way Out Yonder" and easy to load for, get a 7MM S.T.W. Layne Simpson "created" the round and it is everything he intended it to be!
This of course, is making the assumption you are willing to change caliber!

You could always get the original barrel cut back slightly and turn it into 300 RSAUM or 300 WSM. These cases are a shortened version of the 300 RUM and the 300WSM is a popular 1000yd BR cartridge.

You can always load the .300 RUM down to 30-06 recoil levels for recreational shooting. Put a good brake on the rifle and enjoy a great cartridge. Both of my .300 RUM rifles shoot great and became enjoyable with a muzzle brake.

Remington also sells "managed" recoil loads for the 300RUM if you don't load your own
