300 Norma Improved 35 degree

We'll eventually find out with my 338 version, as I'm gonna be pushing 300s at 3010!

Tom
How dare you get 338 Lapua Improved performance from such a small case using 10-15gr less powder! It’s heresy!!!

I pushed the 220gr Berger up over 3204 fps using N570 in my 300 NMI before I had a couple bullet jackets fly apart from excessive spin torque in my 26” long 1 in 9” twist Proof barrel. No major pressure signs on the brass but had to back it off to 3185 fps to keep bullet jackets intact. I have a new Hart 1 in 10” twist and plan on taking another run at the Berger 220gr 300 NMI air speed world record when I get around to installing it.

Definitely won’t be running a 1 in 9” twist in the 300 NMI again.

Well we're going to find out what the 245 Berger and 250 A Tip are made of soon. My stuff came in, and Alex fitted me up a 1.450", 34" 8 twist brux. The cerus stock makes a 34 incher plus brake almost look about right lol.

Yeah Alex sent me the pic earlier today. She’s a beaut Clark! ;)

Be interesting to see what speed you get the 245s to fly apart cuz I’m sure that barrel can get there. Lol

Here’s a couple of pics of the 300NMI that Alex built for me this past summer. Needless to say but the fit & finish are excellent. The rifles intended use will be for elk so I wanted it to come in on the lighter side and keep the overall profile thinner and more practical. Ive held off until conditions were closer to hunting temps before tuning. I should be able to get it out within the next week or two so will post results after each range visit. Specs are listed below.
-Bat HR action
-Krieger #5, 1:9, 24” barrel (Cut 1” from shank & 1” from muzzle)
-Mcmillan game hunter stock
-BixnAndy tac/sport trigger
-Beast brake
-Hawkins BDL bottom metal (wyatts box)
-Rifle weighed in at 8lbs bare & 10lbs3oz scoped.

Thought this link would be helpful for anyone that’s thinking about building a lightweight hunting rifle in this caliber. Took this video clip while fire forming brass this past summer (82.0 grains of H1000, 215 hybrids). The recoil is very manageable with the beast brake.

Yeah the Beast brakes are amazing at taming recoil. I have the 4 port titanium beast on my lightweight carbon fiber 300 NMI. A small child could easily handle the recoil.

Total weight with everything except a scope and rings is 7 lbs, 7.6 oz.

First pic is from left to right 245,230,215, and 200 20x Bergers all lined up at the ogive. The 200-230 all have the same nose. The second pic is the same bullets lined up at the boatail. The 200-230 all seem to be to the best of my measurements the same bullet with added bearing surface.

@Alex Wheeler
Have you tested the 200 20x much in the NMI? I was curious about that bullet at one point because the speed would be crazy if they held up.

I tested the high BC Sierra 200gr MatchKing in my first NMI with the 1 in 8” twist Broughton barrel. Never could dial it in so I abandoned any plans to try the Berger 200 20x. But to be fair, that 8” was way too tight of a twist for a 200gr bullet and my .235” freebore barely left any contact in the case neck if I tried to touch the lands because the bearing surface of the Sierra was so short

Personal opinion. When you get into the Sierra 200 and 200.20x, the ultra high BC,VERY short bearing surface bullets seems to be more finicky to me.

Try some solids and spin ‘em as fast as you want.

That thing is gonna be so fast you’ll have leaded copper soup coming out the barrel. Lol.

And you shouldn’t need ear plugs cuz the muzzle is a mile out in front of you. Lol

Love that set up! Thanks for posting, me and my cousin both have similar set ups being put together by Alex currently. I’m glad this thread is up and going, should make things easier when we get the rifles.
