300 Black Bolt Gun. Which one?

I have to replace a Remington 700 SPS in 300 Black. When I bought the Remington, Savage was not making a 300 ( or they didn't have inventory). The Remington had a Hogue Stock and I put a Rifle Basix trigger in it and it shot well..
Any of you guys shooting a Savage Axis in 300? And would you buy the Remington or Savage Axis?
Thanks

Most of the Axis I've seen were long action.

I don't have one in .300 bo but the RARs have quite a following on a few other sites I frequent (I do have one in commie-30 & its decent for a price-point rig).

I have a 527 and love it. If you buy a Remington, check the barrel twist if you can.
Thousands were sold stamped 1-7 but were actually 1-10. Not bad for supers and some subsonics, but when you get to the big, long copper bullets they will keyhole.

I heard about the twist rate issue in Remintons. I ran a tight patch on my old barrel and counted the turns. It was a 1-7..

Good.I have known at least 8 700 owners with the issue. One sent his back 3 times (freedom group years ) before it was right. Another opted to keep the 1 -10 twist and tested it. For a supersonic hunting rifle it's a viable option. Subsonic, as I mentioned , is limited but not game over. 1-10 twist stabilizes some pretty heavy bullets provided you take shape and length into consideration.
If you want a list of twists that work best with certain bullets, I know a guy that has from 1 -5 to I believe 1-10 chambered in 300 BLK and has tested lot of bullets.
He's right here on this forum, just gets lost in the noise that some of these threads have.

I bought the aac remington model 7 in 300blk and really like it. Fast twist , threaded, light , and pretty accurate with subsonic rounds.

Tough call, there are a couple new players it would be worth looking at, but between the Axis and a Remington, I would probably get a Model 7.

Others that are worth exploring depending on use, might be the Remington 700-cp, a 10” pistol based on the 700.

Howa did one on the mini action.

Kimber Adirondack is a nice rifle but about twice the price of the others.

It really depends on use and expectations.

In case you haven't made a decision, yet...

If you buy a factory rifle then you need to consider the possibility/need to upgrade the stock. The standard rubber/plastic stock isn't rigid enough to keep the forearm from making contact with the barrel when shooting off a rest, bipod or freehand. One solution is to select a rifle with a wood veneer stock or kevlar composite ($ premium), or just plan to spend $200-$300 for inexpensive stock replacement after you buy it.

The other thing to keep in mind is that you really don't need a barrel longer than 18", and there is no benefit to a Heavy contour barrel. In my opinion a Remington Varmint contour is as heavy a barrel as you would want...rigid enough to support a suppressor (if plan to use one) and thick enough for the 5/8"x24tpi thread. I'm not a fan of the thinner barrels with the flange at the end to provide sufficient barrel diameter for a suppressor.

Brownell's has a good buy on a Howa 1500 action in 300 BO, you could put that into a Boyd's stock and have a pretty decent shooting rifle.

I have Ruger American Ranch that takes AR15 magazines. I'm very happy with it.

I have one of the first ones with the rotary magazine......very handy little rifle

I run 110 gr Noslers out of it.....reduced loads with Blue Dot are fun too.....

Almost bought newer style with the AR magazine......just haven't.....yet
