30 mm Front sight iris (failed)

Hi Guys,


Today, my front iris (30 mm right sight) failed in a match. The 'fixed' cross bar is no longer fixed, and the iris opened up all the way and was wobbling around.


This it the second front iris that has failed on me in less than a year.


How many have had something similar happen to them? I can understand that things break, but 2 in less than a year? At 185 bucks for a new iris (and remember this is my second one in less than a year) it gets pretty pricey.


BTW -I am very gentle on equipment, so its not like I am banging the thing about. Also, shooting a normal 308 Palma rifle (155's)


I am considering going to:


A. A Sumo front sight with replaceable elements (www.sumosight.com)


B. a 22 mm front sight

I have one of the very first Rightsites, which came with inserts. When Wayne got Gehmann to make the aperture, I bought one as soon as they were available and have not had an issue, but a buddy did. He went through the Gehmann warranty process on Wayne's website. Now he has a backup. Hopefully you didn't 86 the broken ones.

I have no idea why you would have two fail. That's sucks. I wish I knew what I did with the old stamped inserts. I would loan then to you until you get your replacements, but it's been at 10 years since I have seen them. Maybe Wayne has some left over?
