30 BR- LT-30 vs H-4198

Larry, I shot it at The Nationals, and it shot quite well. I shot a 250 20x at 100, but I had 3 shots that were so close to the X that I had them rescored. They did not quite make it, but that tells me that I was just a few thousanths of shooting 23X’s in some challenging conditions.

My testing since has showed that it might be a little better than both 4198 and LT-30.

It shot just as well at 200. The one 9 I shot was so close they checked it with the reticle.

It is a little slower than both 4198 and LT-30. I am shooting 35.7 grns of it at an average 3025 FPS. I have not gone any higher because the accuracy is dead on. I consider it the best alternative to H4198.
I know this is last years thread but how much jam are you running? Thanks!

I always run a few thousand longer than measured jam to offset any discrepancies.
Since this post was started I scored some h4198. I have been disappointed to say the least. Two different lot numbers. I will stick with LT30. It works in Texas hot and humid and sometimes dry Conditions. Yesterday shot 250 19x with lt30. Not great but good enough to win 1st place. Every shot that missed a X was bad wind call. I couldn’t say that with H4198. Plus getting great velocity with lt30. 3100fps.

I love LT30 in my 30BR. My dad used 4198. And I know people that love N130. Also know people who had success with IMR 4198. It is what it is. Some people like baseball, others like football. Some rifles like this powder, others like that powder. Try em all! That's the fun part.
