30 br chronographed with LT30 compared to H 4198

My Sartorius GD 503 is right on the money. I check it with the certified weight that it comes with. It's not one of those cheap scales that floats around for 2 minutes.

Johnny I weighed out 37 grains. That I'm sure of. I'm also using a 19&1/4 inch droptube. Plus like I said my powder was packaged on 12-18-2014. Different lots sometime vary. I know I have some friends who shoot group and sometimes they mention that they cannot fit the same amount of powder that they were use to using because the lot number was different. I'm referencing to N133.

Ahh i get it now with the older powder.

Yes i have a 14" drop tube but it didn't make much of a difference than the 6"

Steve’s funnel and drop tube combo work great. Sprinkle that powder down the sides of the funnel and it will pack in there tight.

I'm a big believer that as long as you stay very close to a given set of case parameters, that you can either optimize a powder to an available case or a case to available powders. A long drop tube just means that one or the other isn't quite optimal. Optimal being, a light ly compressed powder charge...amongst other things. Ultimately, it's gotta shoot really, really small.

Johnny this is my John Holmes model 19.5" droptube compared to my 10" on the right. Johnny my first two seasons I used N130 exclusively in my 30BR Farley Black Widow that I bought from Dean Breeden. I still have at least 250 pounds of the stuff but I hardly use it anymore. H4198 works better for me.

I've got 6lbs n130. i got it for my ppc but haven't shot much ppc.
If 4198 doesn't come back i may have to use it.

I gave it a go and decided H4198 was my powder of choice.

37.0 grains of LT30. Used a 10" drop tube funnel from Benchrite. Bullet seating consistency would not be an issue for me.

I started out back in 15 with 35.8 and then settled on 36.1 and still had a little room for more. I only had the first batch that came out Dec 2014 vintage. Is yours the same? I'm 3 of my rifles I was using 34.3, 34.5 and 34.5 of 4198 with the mouth of the south's 108's and I was avg 3095, 3100, and 3085 respectively. All 3 were Krieger's the 1st 2 17's the last an 18tw all about 23".
