30 BR beyond 300 yards

I am looking for information about the performance of the 30BR past 300 yards? Does anyone have any experience shooting this round in tactical matches? Any pet loads for this purpose?

define tactical matches. I assume you mean tactical as in AR style shooting..... it's hard enough to get a br case to feed in a bolt gun, can't imagine trying to get it to cycle in an automatic style weapon.

as far as 300 yards goes.... I never shoot mine past 200. If i shoot at 300-600, I use my 1:8 6br.

anything beyond 400 yards is VERY dependent on wind. If your definition of "tactical" is 600 yards, IMO, keep looking....the ballistics of most 30BR bullets in the 112-118 g range is about equal to a brick. An entire section of this website is devoted to info on short-range, score, BR loading data. Until you define the max range, bullet weight, brass, powder, twist, etc. that you intend to "use", no one can give a responsible answer.

When I shot the 30BR I always thought of it as having the downrange (beyond 2 or 300 yards, depending on conditions) ballistics of a Campbell's soup can. :D

Thanks for the links.

BTW I put 4 Campbell's Soup cans inside 4 inches at 520 yards just messing around the first time I tired it. That is at least intriguing to me.

But can you do that consistently with a tricky wind and no wind flags?

I shoot a long barreled 30BR in 300 yard groundhog matches here in Vegas. When the wind picks up I get tossed around on paper. If I could use wind flags that would be a different story. I use BIB 118-10 and a chronographed load of 3150 fps.

BBK: My 8 twist 6BR's with 105 to 108 Bergers do that, (and sometimes less) at 500 meters on a regular basis. Whatever floats your boat. ;)

Most tactical matches I have seen are out to 1,000 and some out to 1,200yds. I do not know how those light bullets will do at those extended ranges. Getting it to feed from the mag might just be the part that holds you up. Granted no one states you have to use a mag. Using a mag is just much faster when in a station where more than one shot is needed.
