30 BR and 125 sierra mk

Dave is correct if you want to win 23+ x's you need a custom bullet to do so. I make 30 cals on J4 .925, 1.00, 1080 and 1.115 jackets with weights from 118-150. I experimented with some 135's I made on 1.080 J4's and the shot awesome out to 500 yrds out of a 17 twist barrel.

So short answer is pick a custom bullet maker bullet that you can get a large quanity lot of atleast a years supply and yr good to go. Save those 125's for fireform and such.

For benchrest, I use the 115 Berger. For prone I use the 110 Hornady V Max. They serve me right. Of course that is two different guns. I gotta say, for a good value those 110 Hornadys are great.

for a cheap mess around bullet you cant beat the 125 TNT it shoots great as my custom bullets at 100 yards but poops out at 200 I never really bothered to adjust powder it was shooting over 2900fps just cant remember exact figure.

I think its hard to get the 30BR not to shoot ;D

They are very easy to get to shoot, so many powders, barrels and bullets out there for them and most all shoot really well. With that said I know what i am taking to a score match and those smk 125's are staying home, I shoot them out of my 300 BLKOUT

Thanks
James

30BR's shoot wonderfully well out to 300 yards with some factory and some custom bullets. The question should be: "Which lightweight slow twist 30 cal bullet shoots extremely well beyond 300 yards?" Some time ago, Eric Stecker answered a question I wrote, saying it is not possible to put a BT on short jacket bullets.

Some bullet maker out there could cash in big time if he had the correct answer.

Check with Randy Robinett @ BIB Bullets for more info....ask about his 'bobtails'. ;) -Al

I used to shoot 110 Bergers out of my 1:17, then tried the 125SMK as they are more readily available here and 60% of the price (hey, I'm a cheap dutchman!). They will do <0.3moa and I can't tell a difference between the SMK and my Bergers for what I do with them. I don't shoot BR, but I do need a 0.25-0.30moa rifle for our prone competitions, no problems trusting the 125SMK to do the job.

If you want to use it for BR competitively, see TinMan's advice. For other disciplines: go for it.
