30-06AI with Berger 210 Data?

Anybody have a pet load for their 30-06 Ackley pushing 210 Bergers? Just threw one together and I have a couple hundred Bergers laying around. Thanks!

I've yet to shoot anything heavier than 180s in my 06 Imp. With fireformed brass you should be able to use max or close to max Berger data for your bullet in 30-06 for a start load & work upward 1/2 gr at a time with the slower powders until you get pressure or your desired velocity. Adjust powder type/charge as needed from there. With 210s, IMR 7828SCC or RL26 would be among my 1st choices. Be aware that some brands/lots of brass have significantly different internal capacities.

Also be aware that loading manual data for Ackley rounds varies a lot. Most haven't been reshot in decades. Look at Sierra VI & compare charge/velocity data in the standard 06 vs the 06 Imp. if you really want an internal exercise in logic.

I threw a load of 53.6 of 4350 and its only producing 2400 fps. I’ll try out some 7828. I don’t have any rl26 and there’s none in our little town. I really appreciate the info!

One year while shooting F-Open, I decided to give the 30-06A.I. a shot. I developed a load using 210JLKs. The load was 56.5grs of RL-23. Velocity was right at 2800. I had a .125freebore and the bullet seated at 2.720 that put it at 10thou off the lands. I had a 30" 1-10 twist. My first competition match with it was at 1000 yards at Bayou Rifles in Houston. Evidently, my load was good because I actually won the match. Against those shooters at Bayou, I rarely won! Then I moved to Chandler, Arizona. There is a 500 yard "John Martin Cup" match at Rio Salado Gun Club. Anyone who is anyone in the Phoenix area goes to it. I won that one too! I don't say these things to brag>>>just to let you know that the round, properly loaded, is extremely capable!

That’s awesome! It’s new to me but maybe it will stay with me for a long time. It is a nice cartridge.

It is a very "under-looked at" cartridge. I forgot to mention this>>>> just to give you the accuracy potential of the cartridge>> I was at the "public range" at Rio Salado one day to "foul-out" the barrel before a match that weekend. I was just shooting at 100 yds. BUT I shot the best 5 shot group I ever fired with ANY rifle in my life! The best I could measure it (just using my normal reloading calipers) was one of 2 measurements: 1.) 0.048 and 2.) the other was 0.016! That is a W-I-D-E spread. I had a pic of it on my phone>>lost to who knows where>>>but it was one hole that was impossible for me to tell that more than one bullet was shot in there! It is MOST capable!

That’s impressive!!! I inherited the reamer from a friend and it only has a couple chambers on it. I rechambered a savage but I’d like to build another rifle maybe next year.

Ackley improved 30-06 It's only 68 fps faster than the standard 30-06 with the 220 gr bullet in the Nosler manual with the Standard at 57 gr RL22 and Ackley 58.5 gr of RL 22 as top velocities in this manual. I don't care what cartridge or what wildcat you want to build but 68 fps is not a game changer or impressive enough to make the change, IMO. The standard 30-06 has 97.5% of the performance of the Ackley version....so close that some fast standard 06 barrels could be the same or faster. And 2.5% velocity gain 68 fps at the muzzle is not gonna make any difference at distance, say 1000 yds the Ackley is down to 40 fps advantage, with a good BC bullet. Hardly enough to chamber or rechamber a rifle for, and mess around with fire forming...IMO.
Just facts to contemplate, and make your decision if it's right for you.

I like the ackley cases mostly for stunting case growth. Ive never loaded a 06' case so I'm not familiar with how much case growth they have, but most ackley designs are good for reducing it drastically. Of course this comes from someone who wants to get as many firings out of a case as possible and the less trimming i have to do, the better.

However if someone is just knocking down targets and or game, and not concerned with maximum case life, it might not be a factor in their setup.

Save your Bergers for post fire forming though for sure. Get a cheaper bullet for fire forming or COW form them.

I used a standard 06 to load 215 bergers to 2550 using h4350. Rifle had a serengeti.chamber and 30" krieger. Never was able to get 0.5 moa and it torqued a lot on the bag. I had a couple other expert shooter try it and results weren't any better. My 6xc shot circles around it so I didn't persue it.

The 06AI I had, used more powder to achieve same speed as parent case. It did better with the heavies in my findings, but still not the gain I had hoped for.

If you want speed have a look at N550 or N560, I recently switched over to N165 from them just because I wanted to try a "cooler" powder and it stuck. I was very happy with the performance of N550 in the rifle before switching.

Only drawback that N165 might have is you need to fill that case up all they way to get the speed and if you don't have enough freebore to seat that long bullet out you might not get enough in there, in a really short barrel you might also not burn up all that powder but in a 30" you should have any problems. Im shooting them at 2650fps out of a 25.5" barrel so you should be able to push them quite a bit more than 2550fps

Thanks, my problem was not being able to get enough in the case. How long is your overall loaded round?
