30-06 to 25-06

I have had some very lousy new, name brand 25-06 brass. I'm wondering if some of you gents have tried using Lapua 30-06 and necking it down to 25 cal.? If so, did you find it necessary to inside ream to remove donuts? I have a new Krieger blank and could have the neck size chambered to whatever size would work best using the Lapua 30 cal. brass. Hopefully some of you have experience with this particular project which will help me avoid pitfalls. Thanks.

I shot a Sendero in 25-06 in the 1K stock class. I did a chamber cast to determine factory neck diameter, then necked down Lapua brass to 25, and neck turned them for minimal clearance. I didn't have any donut problems.

I'd suggest you do the same, but a little different approach. I'd neck down the brass and measure them, and then cut your reamer/chamber to give the clearance you want.

I have lots of '06 and .270 so I use my .270 and trim the length to make my .25-06 ......

With the .270 cases and three .25-06 rifles I have not had to neck turn yet ......... but that's me .........

(I do neck turn some of them, but don't have to yet)

I necked down Lapua 30=06 brass and used it in a 25-06 sendero. IIRC I also neck turned the cases for uniformity, and they shot VERY well. However, I also shot some of the necked down lapua 06 cases without neck turning, and they shot just as well. Good Brass, I sold the rifle, but still have some reloads. Maybe I need to purchase another 25-06

I have ordered lapua 30-06 brass for my target 25-06.I just necked down 50 remington cases,I lost some neck concentricity,but they have not been fire formed yet.I bought 100 ww 25-06 brass and the neck concentricity was from .002-.006.ony 50 were to my satisfaction.The remington 30-06 brass was mostly .002 about 6 I did not use.will let you know how the lapua specs out.
