30-06 fans sell me on it

Hammer dude this is not a cartridge question. Do you like the old Rem 700 Rifle ? I'm fond of most all the older hunting rifles. If it feels right to you, clean it, shoot it. Take it from there. The rifle itself will tell you if it is worth the effort to make it shoot well. mikeinct

Here you go if you have any of these. Like I said earlier that RL22 and a good 180. Regardless you can’t go wrong with the 30-06 hoss.
Hope you keep it and enjoy it.

I grew up with a 270, my whole family had 270s and 25-06s and the 30-06 was frowned upon. It was always getting bashed. Now I own two of them, a Ruger #1 and a pre 64. I still have a 270 and 25-06 too but I’ve grown fond of the 30-06. The 30-06 is one of the most versatile cartridges out there, bullet selection is insane, brass is easy to find, good brass can be bought, lots of powders to choose from. An old Remington 700 chambered in 30-06 is a great rifle plus it’s a piece of Americana, what’s not to like?

I think nastalga is what will sell it for me
The M-1 Garand was my issue rifle USMC 1960 and reason I have 2-30-06. One got Bartlein barrel other Shilen. I made landing Chu Lai with M-14. Never did shoot little one. I've been using H-4350 in both but last year got my hands on 8 lbs R-26. Been great in my 27" barrel 280AI with 175gr ABLR.

What’s not to like? Loose teeth! (Comments from my new book “Accepting old age”. )

I scored a Wally world clearance M700 adl in 30-06. Thought about semi custom 220 swift. Than I found a deal on some bottom metal and a HS stock. Buddy had a RCBS sb die set(free) and a neighbor had some brass from a relatives estate. After shooting it, keeping it as an all around game rifle it was met to be. If I grow really fond of it, maybe my first Shilen remage, in 30-06.

If a guy says that he can’t get it done with a 30-06 then he is more than likely commenting on his shooting/hunting ability.
I decided to treat myself to a custom made Cooper a few years ago and could have picked any cartridge that I wanted. Wasn’t much of a decision - 30-06.
I also have a synthetic/stainless Sako in the same for the crappy weather days that I don’t want to drag that beauty out in.
Enjoy
Gary

R23,r26 are my fav i will move heaven and earth to find those. 100v, H and imr 4350, 8133,h1000,7828,4000 power pro, vv570,vv160,165,h4831 and some others
Hammer,

N-160 or N165 with the 175gr. weight class or higher work well in my 30-06. All the way to 1k, but I wouldn't hunt with it past 500.

There should be no concerns for you regarding the performance of an 06. If so, ask the Germans and Japanese what they think...they got a little taste of it. It has successfully hunted man and game all over the world and won 1000 yard competitions as well. Many wildcats have been developed from it. Even the CM can't make all of these claims...yet. Many powder and bullet options work well.

Most real rifle lovers have owned or still own at least one .30-06. I have had it in a Savage 110P, Ruger M77, two Remington 700s, a Ruger #1B and a sporterized Rock Island Arsenal Springfield '03. I only have the '03 now. I built it on a pristine, unissued, unfired surplus barreled action (serial number says made in 1917) with the era's beautiful polish and blueing for my father back in 1975. It took a week of various solutions, soaking and elbow grease to remove that darned semi-dried cosmoline from all the parts and bore. Dad developed serious heart issues two years later that ended his hunting days and handed it back to me. He only got a chance to fire maybe 50 rounds through it. It still shoots brilliantly and can be counted on to put five into less than an inch at 100 yards with its favorite loads. I never had any load I tried in it shoot bad....just some better.
