30-06 compatibility with RE 26

I have a jug of RE 26 and I am curious if anyone has tried it in a straight 30-06. I am wanting to shoot 150/165 grain bullets

RE22 is about the slowest I'd run. It is too slow for my chamber with 190gr Bergers (likes H4350 better). 26" barrel.

With those bullet weights you could use a full case of 4350 class powders. I bet 4831 would be heavily compressed.

RE-26 which is similar in burn rate to h1000 would likely be so low in pressure that you would see very poor performance.

Yes, I could. But I would like to find a reason to open the 8 pounds of RE26.

I would think RL26 could be compatible IF you are shooting the heavier bullets(200 grain).
You may check with @Alliant Reloading to see if they had any test results that fit what you want to do.
I checked all the data I could find that they had published and found nothing. After seeing the Gordons reloading info info, maybe I should continue with the H4350.
Thanks

Presently I am shooting nothing that is suitable for 26. As for a trade if someone is in El Paso wants it, the drive for a face to face may be quicker to Minnesota. :)

Isn't RL26 quicker than 22? I'm sure "Laurie" has a post on it - and it's a go to powder for the Majick Creedmoor.

All the info I've seen is R26 being near H1000 and retumbo in burn rate, but take that with a healthy dose of salt as I have no data myself. I've been looking at powders for the big RUM cases (338 Edge), and R26 is suitable for that, where R22 is on the fast side.

As always, YMMV, and I would yield the floor to Laurie as he has orders of magnitude more data than I.

Wish you were closer, I’d offer to trade H4350 for that RL26 if you were so inclined.

From Reload Swiss website - RL62 is Reloader 26? - There's 6.5 CM info. on this site using this powder.

"RS62 propellant was originally developed for 270 Win., but is also superb for .30-06 Spring. cartridges. In terms of vivacity, it approaches RS60 , but RS62 operates with significantly lower energy content and thus produces less barrel wear. A genuine alternative for shooters who are looking for a straightforward, honest, easy-to-use propellant powder for magnum cartridges in light and medium-weight applications.

Standard calibres

  • .270 Win.
  • .30 - 06 Spring.
  • 7 mm - 08 Rem.
  • 7 x 64
  • 7.62 x 54

Powder type

RS62 is an extruded, single-based propellant powder based on nitrocellulose. The surface is coated with camphor. This results in balanced temperature behaviour with moderate pressure at high temperatures."

You are quite right! This from this website."Reloder 26 offer high velocities in large magnum cases. Achieve awesome ballistics with new Reloder 26 from Alliant Powder. The propellant’s burn speed falls between that of Reloder 22 and Reloder 33, and it incorporates EI® technology to produce extremely high velocities in magnum cartridges. Reloder 26 has a high bulk density that allows larger powder charges, and it provides a consistent, controlled response to temperature changes."

It also states that it is made by Nitrochemie, in Switzerland. I wonder if the RL62 is imported then - as an alternative to 4350?

KMart, I looked on Hodgon's web sight for 150's, that StaBALL 6.5 is hauling ass. So are a few others. If you could find any of them. I load IMR 4350 with 150 Tipped Barnes in my 06. It shoots good so never tried anything else. If you ever come thru DFW I'll trade that RL26 for some H4350. LOL

Thanks to everyone that offered suggestions. I have a pretty good selection of powders that are suitable for the 30-06 and I should be able to an acceptable load for my purposes.
I just needed to see if maybe the RE-26 would work. I like to try new things.
