So is it safe to say RL-15 is the second choice of powder for the 6BRX and other 6mmBR wildcats ?
For 2 years it was my first choice. I still like it a lot.So is it safe to say RL-15 is the second choice of powder for the 6BRX and other 6mmBR wildcats ?
I'd like to hear more about your 4166, and SWP loads running 105's.For Yinz wondering about 4064.....From my work, I found that
AA-4064 has an edge over IMR-4064. AA has a smaller kernel
and a better case fill. It's cheaper and normally available. Not to
mention it shot well enough to use as my main, after running out
of IMR-4166. And don't forget LOVEX (shooters world) Precision
Rifle powder. It's in the burn speed of R-15 and the 4064's. I will
buy more of it when it comes available.
My shooting buddy is a BRX man and 8208XBR is good to him.So is it safe to say RL-15 is the second choice of powder for the 6BRX and other 6mmBR wildcats ?
Well Midsouth has some SW Precision in right now, but it’s expensive! From what I’m seeing, if you could get precision (which you can’t), it’s more expensive then Varget right now!
Jeff,If I could not have Varget I would try 4895 or if shooting lighter bullets VV135 . I have also wondered about 4064 . I have read 140 works with 105 classbullets but a bit shy on velocity. Maybe VV 137.5. Not far off is 748 and blc. Being an old experienced guy and former Boy Scout, coming up on a presidential election I did not get caught short.

Wayne, I have a friend who had a lot of success with a Dasher who is a Rl15 fan. I have always thought, like you, that it is dirty. My friend says it's only dirty if the loads are not hot enough. I never went back and tried it hotter in the BRX as Varget has served me well. JeffBill,
All of my 6 BRX rifles have preferred Varget over all other powders, The Dasher seemed to like H4895 the best but powders with 103-107 weight bullets that I used in the brx in order was:
Varget-H4895-8208-RL15 however I hated how dirty it was !… it was my number 2 powder in the Dasher but I really hate how filthy 15 was!
Wayne
I shot with a guy a few years ago in Montana that was very competitive!… he shot 15 in his Dasher and swore by it,…. I’ll have to reinvestigate 15 one day and try bumping it up some more to see if it cleans up,… ThanksWayne, I have a friend who had a lot of success with a Dasher who is a Rl15 fan.
