284win Fopen ?

It depends on your setup. My stock is a robertson profile from X Ring stocks. It has the RAD system in it also. It will shoot in the .1s free recoil. It shoots better free recoil based on my testing.

Ryan hope my barrel shoots like yours. Seeing it was same run as yours and you sold me the barrel. Andrew

Do you find that almost free recoil or more pressure work best in this set up?
You can make both techniques work exceptionally well and there are examples of each method winning big matches. However, you will need to tailor your equipment and shooting technique to the method you choose. Theoretically, free recoil is superior because you have eliminated some inconsistencies from the equation. But, that's an unproven theory with heavy recoiling rifles! Personally, I have full contact with my 308 WIN, but it is light contact.

I changed stocks this year (to X-Ring/Robertson style) and my style/grip/position had to change quite a bit to accommodate. Like Ryan, I've found that it responds better (for me) to less pressure/management than my last stock did, which required a full hold contact or it would throw shots.

I use a mcmillan mbr. I shoulder the stock, but I try to use as little grip pressure to no grip pressure as possible. I am also a bag squeezer. This has worked well for me the past year, but I have new bags and a new rifle coming for next year. I may need to adust my style.

I shoot both a Robertson and one of Ryan Pierce stocks..both in 284 and free recoil both.

I think your question is one of the cool things about F-class. There is no set certain way to shoot. I will give you an example. Emil Kovan holds on to his guns quite a bit and David Gosnell is just about the extreme opposite of that. Both of them National Champs.

Brian Litz has very little contact with is FTR rifle and James Crofts lays on top of his FTR rifle. Both National Champs!

I have never had much luck with free recoil but that is just me. I find that I need just a little bit of pressure.

Figure out what way works the best for you and try and repeat it every time.
