284 Winchester w/162 Gr A-Max Loading data needed

I just got my 284 long range mauser project done excluding mounting the scope but wanted to start working on loads. I am using a 162 Gr A-Max seated to 3.096 OAL .01" off the lands.

I have Varget,Reloder 17, Big Game and Magnum at my disposal.

Does anyone have a load that they just love.
I looked at the 7mm info page but didnt see any loads with these powders for the 284.

Any help would be appreciated.

I use 54 gr RL-15 with the 162 gr A-Max in WW brass with 210M primers, and I'd consider that short of a maximum load but well above a starting load. I find that the A-Max likes to be 0.030" off the lands in both .223 and .284.

Henryp, thanks for putting that out there, I've got a pound of the tuff and was going to look up a starting point.

Magnumwill, I've been having good luck with Hybrid100V but have yet to try any of the RL-17 yet. My single life got put on hold so I don't have the amount of time to play with gun stuff as I used too so this 284 project is still a project. My COL is 3.100" so we're pretty close there and mine is on a Mauser action also. I'm getting pretty good velocities but Quickload says I'm 2k over pressure. I'll pass on my load data but shoot me a PM if you would like it. Later,

Kirk

I hunt with this load.
24" Barrel, 53G of RL17
OAL 3.21[/]
. I was really trying to keep the bullet out of the neck
And shoulder junction if you haven't noticed. 0.30”@ 100 yards and 1” to 1.5” @ 500 yards.

I want to try this at 800 yards but just haven't had time.
This load is at 2850FPS. Also there are no pressure signs in my rifle but when i go over the 53G of powder the group starts to open up a lot.

This is kind of ironic but my chamber neck is .321,( same as my OAL) a load round is .312 and a resized neck before seating bullet is .3115. Lapua brass. Necks have been turned lightly trying to keep as close as possible to .01400.
I hope this helps.

I loaded up some rounds this weekend out of my rifle and fired them over the chronograph and am pleased so far. The 162 grain A-Max loads out of my 27-1/4" barrel started at 50.5 grains and went up to 52.5. The 50.5 grain loads were right at 2850 FPS and the 52.5 grain loads averaged 3013 FPS with no pressure signs all loads well under .5 MOA at 100 with the best load shooting right at .25 MOA.

It was ~35 degrees outside and I still have a cruddy 2 stage military trigger in this rifle so hopefully when I get some more time I can mess around with some more loads and get a better trigger.
