284 Win and 162 A-MAX?

Hey guys,
I know most people shoot the 180's out of their 284's but I'm starting to see the 162 AMAX's back in stock so figured I'd pick some up to try, can always use them in one of my other 7's if they don't work out. Was just wondering if anyone is shooting this combo and if you would mind sharing your loads and any other thoughts on how you thought they performed.

I shoot mostly the 162 A-max in my 284's and 7mm SAUMS, and they do a stellar job.
Ground hogs don't care for them very much !!!
I use mostly H4831 SC in them...

I had 53.5gr h4350 at 2925 with 28" barrel

When I first got my 284 WIN barrel, I tried 175 SMK, 180 Hybrids and 162 A-MAX.

all shot good with H4831sc so I used the Hybrids.

I couldn't get H4831sc at my range so I started using RL-17 with good lucj with Hybrids and A-MAX. Then, I noticed a couple times the A-MAX was noticeably better than the Hybrid!

Now I use the A-MAX exclusively. I use this gun with a 30" barrel for long range BR as well as F Class.

I coat with hBN and 52.0 gr of RL-17 gets me 2950 fps. I use both Lapua and W-W cases with similar rsults and both seem to have good case life with this relatively "mild" load.

And, A-MAX is very cost effective!!!

A few guys in our club are starting to shoot them instead of the 180 Hybrids. On paper/in theory the Hybrids hold a very slight advantage in the wind at long range. But in reality, most of those guys are outscoring me

I'm a little surprised at the results some of you guys are getting with the 162s out of magnums - the ones I was shooting out of my 284s were older bullets, and always seemed to shoot better groups when pushed no faster than 2750fps. Perhaps newer bullets have better jackets? When I say older, I'm speaking of bullets purchased 10+yrs ago.

I'm still working off a giant stash of 'original' 162s. ~2990fps.
Haven't shot the 7mm AMP jacketed version...

Kayle, I use 52.5grs of H4350 with the 162s. This is the same load that my son in law shoots in his too. It has been a hammer for us. I have shot mine out to a mile with the 162s and was amazed at how well they shot. Good luck in your quest!!!
