284 Winchester brass

Whats the best route here? Peterson brass, Norma? Necking up Lapua 6.5 284. Kinda funny that the 284 was necked down to 6.5x284 for years and now folks are doing the opposite.

Oh i'm there with you on the irony!

Mine is a hunting rifle.
Whitworth Mark X.
Changed barrels from 270 Win to a 284 Win from E.R. Shaw. B&C stock.

I ended up with Norma brass. Unfortunately was before Peterson started offering theirs.
No issues with any cases thus far.

Peterson brass. I've used both Lapua and Norma and neither stack up to Peterson in terms of weight consistency, consistent neck thickness and strength. Peterson outweighs them both and it shows in terms of strength and primer pockets not falling apart. I'm 6 times fired on one batch of Peterson cases, primer pockets feel the same after 6 loadings as they did after the 2nd firing. On Lapua and Norma with the same powder charges, primer pockets were loosening up noticeably.

I have been using Peterson 284 brass in my newest 25/284 with the 131 BJ they are standing up to it no problem, where Norma 284 lost it after 4 loads on a case...

I just ordered 100 pcs of Peterson brass today. New to the 284 so wasn’t sure either. A lot of people said to go with Peterson.

I shoot Norma Run mine around 2835. Have 8 firings on one set of brass and 6 on another set. And zero issues. No issues at all with the brass. Some claim norma is soft but shooting this for two years and nothing but fun shooting. I anneal every firing too

I have Lapua and Winchester for years. As long as I sorted and culled, I actually liked the older WW the best. I never had donuts with it and retired it at 10 firings and it was still working fine. I am just trying Peterson and Norma.

Whatever you decide, make sure your reamer is set up for the brass you choose unless you want to do some serious neck turning. The WW and Lapua are thinner than the Peterson and Norma. My reamers for the WW/Lapua are several thousandths smaller in the neck than the one I just did for the Peterson/Norma.

Straight Lapua (new) or Peterson. Will go the same route when I get around to building my next hunting rig. Great round.

Lapua will be making/selling straight 284 brass soon so unless you need it right now you may want to wait a bit or just neck up Lapua 6.5-284

Peterson has a better box:)

I just bought 284 Peterson brass for my new build. Quality and consistency is on par with my 6.5x47 brass.

Your 284 is build long action?

Yes.
Had to slightly open up the lips on the magazine to help with the increased case diameter. And i do mean just slightly.
Feeds fine.
Now if i could just lose some weight!
Heavy at 10lbs.
