284 Win

I've sure been meaning to try them, but the 162 A-max shoots so good I just havnt got to them yet...

Hi Preacher what powder and charge weights are you using with the 162 A max and what is there favoured seating depth jump or jam.
Thanks
Dave

Yep, 3 out my 4 284 barrels (my 3x 9" twist ones) prefer the 168gn Bergers. My 284s are only used in bigger F class shoots and the 284 only from 600yds out to 1200 (and 1500yds)

I will be keen to try the 180 Sierra as it looks to be very slightly short than the 180 Berger but should hopefull be less tempermental seating depth wise.

Hey Fellas,

I would also like some load data for the 162 A-Max & the 168 Berger for the .284 Winchester.

I am currently shooting the 180 Bergers.

Thanks, Dean-o

Hi Dean-o. I shot the A-Max out of my 284 Shehane and it tuned at the same velocity nodes as the B180VLD but the top node was 100 fps faster. I shot a ladder with IMR-7828SSC from 57.2 to 60.4 grains without any pressure problems, but it really liked 58.0 and 59.6 for vertical, about 3000 fps and 3100 fps respectively from a 31 inch 1:9 Kreiger. Maybe you can scale those down for your 284 from your Shehane loads. Also, H4350 might be perfect with that light bullet. I have been getting good reults with it and the Hybrids.

I was using 51.6 grs of H4350 with the Hornady 162 Amaxs last year. Vel = 2920 with a 32 RC bbl. This year I am going to use the SIE 175 SMKs with 50.3 grs of H4350.

Tried the Hornady 162g A Max today in my 284, Fed. magnum primers, and 52 grains of Reloader 17 for 3000 fps. Tight groups to.
