.284 Win, why not?

Hey guys, how come I don't see to many dicussions on .284win? The cartidge info on this site makes it sounds like a winner over the 6.5-284. I'm looking for a rifle that will live in the 800-1100 yard range with decent barrel life and won't kick by butt. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

Tx,
I am not sure how you have missed the all of the .284 posts. A quick search of this forum's pages will provide you with hours of enjoyable reading, nearly all of it very positive. Build one, you will love it.

I am shooting a 284 Shehane at 600 to 1000 yards with Berger 180gr vlds and love it. I used to shoot my 6.5 x 55 Ack Imp for F class and 1000 yd Benchrest matches, but was constantly outdone by the 7mm rifles on the line, so that is why I went for the Shehane. Just go for a straight 284 and use off the shelf dies as Shehane dies have to be custom dies. No brainer!

My straight 284 is pushing 180 Bergers @ 2,950fps. And it does the job.

I love the gun!

If I had to loose them all but one, that one would be one of my straight .284 Winchesters.......

Tommie, sounds like you and I are in the same boat. Thank you everyone, for your responses! Sounds like I found my next project.

I enjoy my Shehane! The first match I shot it in, I easily bested my previous highs! And, I was fireforming brass at the same time!
