I know you're asking specifically about new Peterson .284 Win cases. I used the 6.5-284 to make 7 Shehane and my necks measured .314 after necking up and seating Berger 184s. I've subsequently turned necks down to 12 thou to fit my current chamber. Sorry I don't have any new Peterson .284 Win brass to measure.
Peterson I have .317 with a Berger classic hunter. .3145 out of the box. 2.161 case length, 211.5-213.3 grains in weight. Random sample of two.
Lapua random sample of two. .313 neck, .315 with Berger CH. 2.164 and 2.165 case length. 192.8-193.3 grains in weight.
This Peterson brass was one of the very first batches IIRC. Not certain on the Lapua, have had it several years. About to begin one of those “when I get around to it” projects.
I pulled 3 pieces of virgin 284 Win Peterson brass, light chamfer and deburred, then ran a nylon brush inside the neck for proper readings. I measured in 3 places on each.
I'm measuring 0.016".
Thus giving 0.032" for both sides.
So, .032+.284= .316".
I'm shooting a SAAMI chamber also, and have no issues with the Peterson brass.
Biggest issue that I have is the freebore length. Mine is a hunting rifle and I use up to 168gr bullets for hunting.
The 140gr & 168gr Berger VLD really don't like the long jump!
