284 Win in H S Precision Detach Mag

Hello guys; I am in the process of building a 284 and decided on getting the new Defiance action for the gun. In order to attain rigidity I want to obtain the target port version but since the rifle will be used for occasional hunting and culling purposes it will have to be a repeater. Because of this I decided on getting the H S Precision bottom metal but I am a little bit concerned that the slighly fatter 284 rounds might not feed or fit in the long action H S magazine designed for 30-06 type cartridges. Has anybody tried this cartridge in one of those mags; will they fit and feed? Any info will be appreciated.

Contact H-S and they will know. I use AI .300 Win mags for .284 in my Eliseo RTM and they work fine. It is a similar single-stack mag.

I was just wondering if you had contacted HS about using the 300 magazines for your 284. I am considering doing the same.

I am battling to get the HS Precision website to work on my computer; it keeps on throwing me back to their main page. However one of these days our importer here in South Africa will have them in stock and they will check whether the 284 will work better in the 30-06 type magazine or the 300 Win Mag. I will keep you informed.

My RTM uses both .308 and .300 Win AI mags, depending on what lower is installed. I also have an H-S PST-025 with .308 mags. The .284 cases fit and feed fine in all three. The problem could come from using .284s in a Mauser body size, staggered magazine. The larger .284 case might not permit the columns to stagger properly. The safest bet would be the .300 Win mag. It would still be worth an email to H-S. They seem to only allow contact through a web form. ???
