The 7-08 is a 24" sporter Rem 700 , the .284 is a 24" sporter Savage. I limited the OAL to 2.8" on the savage to mimic what was possible for the Rem in case I wanted to re-barrel the 700. It turns out I don't like giving up the mag capacity even for 1 round. I am either going to open the 700 action for a Wyatt mag box or replace the receiver with Defiance or Loan Peak. At those velocities Bonded bullets and solids seem to work better for me.What make of actions are your rifles?
I was intrigued with the .284 way back when, but went 280 because at the time Rem did not offer the chambering and I am a Remington man from back when I was a Remington boy. The Savage offered a low cost opportunity to try it in the last few years so I did. I like the cartridge, a lot, but for a hunting rig I am willing to give up the 200 fps for the extra shot.
I shoot 7mm 139/140's for whitetails @ 25-400 yds and the 7-08 works excellent.
