284 Twist Rate

TWIST RATE:
Ordered my barrel today for my 284 Winchester build. I ordered a 9 TWIST. I hope this is right for the 162g Amax?

I use a 9 twist in my 7WSM for the 180 bergers, and my brother uses a 9 twist in his .284 for the 180 Bergers. I can't imaging that it will be a problem for teh Hornady 162s, unless you are using a 20" barrel or something else exceptionally short.

I have a 1:9.5 twist 284win/7mm from Kieger. Finished at 24" and shooting 150-160gr hunting bullets.
I did quite a bit of research to come up with my 9.5 twist, and can say almost for certain that a 9 will shoot your 162 Amax's well. Your Amax's have a longer bearing surface as oppose to my none VLD bullets with much shorter bearing surface.
You'll be very happy.

I'm shooting the 162 gr A-Max from a 20" 1:10 barrel with no problems; a 1:9 will do the job under any conditions.

What made me post the question was, on the box it has 1 in 8 twist.

I'm shooting a 1-8 twist on my 1K 7mm-08 with moly 162 a-max's
No complaints. will shoot one-hole groups at 100 yards and hold the x-ring at 1K if I do my part

1 in 8 for me i love it . this twist one hole groups at 200 yards and just at 1 inch at 500 yards in my 28 inch pipe . just my two cents

I shoot the 162 A-Max from my 284 Win and my 1-9 twist barrel is doing fine. I was originally going to shoot the 180 Bergers so I went with the 1-9 but hey what can I say I went with the little red tipped bullets. Later,
