My 7mm Shehane has an RPA Quadlock action and a 32" Truflite barrel. I just got the gun recently and am trying out 175 and 180 grain bullets just now.
Over in Britain we have stupid restrictions on our army ranges so I have to Make ammo which is downloaded to suit muzzle energy restrictions. Shooters in the US dont know how lucky they are. We also pay exactly double the price you pay for barrels, adtions etc.

Great rig that, shooting a blaser Lrs2 with f open development squad in Ireland and getting on ok at 800y however i am on lookout for stock to start build with f open rifle in .284 to shoot 900-1200y, could you recomend a site which sells either new/second hand mcmillian f open or simmiler stocks which would suit 30in heavy barrel .284, thanks.

Paul.
You might just try a "Wanted to Buy" ad in the classified ads section of this forum. Lots of folks here have gotten the things they need that way. No cost for the listings.

Running mine with a:

Surgeon 1086R
Bartlien 26" 1:9 gain twist barrel
In a Manners TF4A stock with the manners mini chassis and 90% carbon fill

It is mostly a hunting rifle, but also use it for target shooting. It is an absoulute joy to shoot!

.284 Shehane tight neck, Douglas 9(? Can't remember, pick it up Friday!) Finished at 30" with a .75 diameter end. Going in a Savage 11 small shank Accutrigger. Going to bed it into the tupperware to start, then see how it shoots while I fireform the Lapua brass.

This looks like the perfect thread to ask you 284 shooters out there if anybody owns it in a Remington long action repeater. (?) I'm thinking of doing a 6.5x284 and want to know if it will properly feed and extract the cartridges out of the 700's built-in magazine reliably, even if I have to operate the bolt slow and deliberate.

I built my first 284 on a LA 700 action that was originally a 30-06. Didn't feed very well, and I wound up inletting the stock (McMillan A5) for B-O M5 BM and using 300 Win Mag magazines. Still isn't perfect, but the AICS mag feeds quite a bit better than the original fixed mag did.

Could be that a little work on the action's feed rails would fix the feed issue, but I'll leave that for someone else to experiment with.

.284 built on a Remington 40X single shot with a Krieger 1-8, 27 inch light varmint, a Richardson Prone Culbertson stock fitted by Master Class Stocks, Jewel trigger at 1 pound. First Long Range Prone match with it, I moved up to High Master and the second match at 800,900 and 1000 yards it shot a 596-22X. Seems to work OK.

I built my original rifle on a Remington short action as a single shot with a 28" Broughton barrel. It was the most accurate rifle I had ever owned!!

I wanted a repeater so found a long action then had the barrel put on the long action so I could use it in tactical matches. I put a box extender on it and feed from the magazine now and it feeds like butter.

VaniB,
I used to shoot the 6.5x284s in tactical matches and fed the rounds out of the mag. I had no problem with my rifle at all. I don't believe I racked them real fast but with normal cycling I had no problems that I can recall. Great caliber by the way just to damn hard on barrels!!
